Uncanny Issues x RISS “‘Un-‘: An Evening for a Prefix”
24.04.2023, Lettrétage Berlin
Un- ghosts through languages, works with the words, against the words, concepts, and structures to which it attaches itself. Far more than a negation particle, as a morpheme, as an article, as a (number) word, or even as a sheer sequence of letters, it unsettles the semantics of the word before which it places itself. Un- opens up spaces of thought, points to latencies, and oscillates between linguistic functions.
Unconscious, untimely, illogical, clumsy, uncanny, nonsensical, and outrageous mark not only opposites but also a not quite dense boundary, behind which possibly lies more than a negative counterpart. Uncanny!
An evening with texts, images, and outrageously mixed editorials (RISS, Zeitschrift für Psychoanalyse and Uncanny Entrepreneurship, UDK).
All panelists bring objects or image files. They do not know beforehand what the other side will bring. Afterwards, they discuss these things from their respective different perspectives.
Book Launch “Uncanny Entrepreneurship”
13.10.2022, Trust Berlin
Join us for the book launch of Uncanny Entrepreneurship, a new publication out on Textem Verlag that aims to uncover, identify, and substantially criticize the uncanny tendencies of (tech-)entrepreneurship.
The tech-entrepreneurship of Silicon Valley and the like has been a powerful agent of global socio-political, economic, and cultural change in the last decades. Disruptive business models and technologies are transforming whole industries, the political realm, and everyday culture, creating new realities on the way. This ongoing and far-reaching transformation and colonization of life worlds, at times, articulates itself in plain sight. But other aspects of its agency remain in an opaque realm, unnoticed by users, workers, political and economic actors alike. This dialectic of movements — one out in the open, one beneath the culturally noticed — allows us to ask the central question of this publication: What is the tech-entrepreneurial uncanny? Or what is the “Un” in “Untrepreneurship”?
Book Launch “Uncanny Interfaces”
16.04.2019, Berlin University of the Arts
To kick off the summer semester, we would like to cordially invite you to the book presentations of the projects “Uncanny Interfaces” (Textem Hamburg) and “texturen Nr. 4 – Dingen” (UdK Verlag Berlin) on April 16 at 7:00 pm (admission from 6:30 pm).
We will read some and introduce others over pretzels and wine. Thomas Düllo (Berlin) and Hans Peter Hahn (Frankfurt) – also authors of the books – will take the meeting of the projects as an opportunity to get to the bottomless pit of the “Uncanny of Things” in a conversation (moderated by Karin Deckner).
